It is true that self-confidence is infectious, impelling, convincing and it draws others towards you. Only you are responsible for your success or otherwise. Of course you will need support from others too, if you need to achieve success, but you will never get that co-operation unless you energise your mind with the positive attitude of confidence. No one pays attention to a person low on self-confidence. The only way you can develop that confidence is by being positive. So, how can you do that?
Here are some tips that will help you B +ve and enhance your self-confidence:
1. |
Making a list everyday: I once attended a yoga camp in Mumbai for 7 days and one of the things I learnt was to write down all the things that made me feel good the previous day, the first thing in the morning. This way it made me notice the small things in life which gave me joy and made me feel good. It can be something as trivial as the sunny or rainy weather, somebody's smile or a beautiful flower, but it's important to acknowledge that these small things bring joy to our lives. |
2. |
Making someone's day: Though we have learnt all our basics right in school and at home, we tend to forget them or take them for granted. Using kind words, smiling, appreciating others, sharing. All these acts are very small yet very powerful and can make a difference not only to the others but it brings a big high within you. Try it and see the difference! |
3. |
Positive affirmations: Buddha said, "All that we are is the result of what we have thought. The mind is everything. What we think we become." That is why it is so important to have positive affirmations every single day and every time when you start to feel the fear or lack of confidence. Just tell yourself, "I can do it and I will do it." |
4. |
Pursuing your hobby: It's strange but most of us don't do things that we love doing. In fact quite a few of us do not even know what we love doing. We need to explore the child within us and start doing things that we enjoy. The benefits are multiple and it takes your confidence to a new high. |
5. |
Meditating: This is a free solution to all your problems. 10 to 15 minutes of your time daily will help you feel so much in control of yourself as you can experience a higher level of awareness. |
6. |
Upgrading yourself: "To know, is to know that you know nothing. That is the meaning of true knowledge." - a very powerful quote by Socrates, the great thinker. It is only with this attitude can you constantly strive to keep on learning and gain knowledge. |
7. |
Reviewing yourself: After following all these tips, how do you know where you have reached? The answer lies in feedback. Yes, it is very important to constantly seek feedback from your friends, mentors, colleagues, boss and family. This will help you understand your own progress and development. |
8. |
And finally - Don't stop: This is a journey that should never end. You may think that you have arrived at your destination but that's not true because change is constant and you have to keep on adapting to newer things in life. |
These are just a few basic tips to get started. There is a lot more to this topic like any other subject and it cannot be covered in just one article. This is just the beginning. Remember, any behavioural change takes a lot of time and effort. The key is to be perseverant and keep at it. And if you feel demotivated and want to give up just remember this quote from Daiskau Ikeda, "The worst mistake you can make is to give up on yourself and stop challenging yourself for fear of failure. Keep moving forward with a firm eye on the future, telling yourself, "I'll start from today!" "I'll start afresh from now, from this very moment!"
